Genesis or Abiogenesis?

Updated: May 16, 2023

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. The same was in the beginning with Elohim. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

When considering abiogenesis and the steps required for life to arise from non-life, do we begin our considerations with particles already existing? Or do we consider the foundation of abiogenesis as energy? And if all matter is energy, given shape and form through vibrations and frequency, what then are the number of steps required for energy to arise? And can these steps takes place by naturalistic means?

Darwinian and Neo-Darwinian evolution theory are not naturalistic theories to explain the world around us, but are fanciful fallible creation-myths of our age, adhered to by the naive and the willingly ignorant alike.

"Our willingness to accept scientific claims that are against common sense is the key to an understanding of the real struggle between science and the supernatural. We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a prior adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counter-intuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door."

Lewontin, Richard C. [Professor of Zoology and Biology, Harvard University], "Billions and Billions of Demons", Review of "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark," by Carl Sagan, New York Review, January 9, 1997. Further considerations.

Recent studies conducted by cognitive scientists have highlighted that a metaphysical outlook, may be so deeply ingrained in the human thought process, that it cannot be expunged. What this means is that though one may claim to be an 'atheist', one's fundamental beliefs at a deeper level of consciousness contradict their outward decision/action to not believe in 'God'.

Graham Lawton, an avowed atheist himself, writing for the New Scientist states; “atheism is psychologically impossible because of the way humans think,”...“They point to studies showing, for example, that even people who claim to be committed atheists tacitly hold religious beliefs, such as the existence of an immortal soul.”

More recently, a study published In the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, conducted by Dr Keise Izuma from the University of York and Colin Holbrook from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is highlighting the correlation between shutting down the part of the brain most associated with logic and reasoning, and the marked increase level of atheism resulting, in participants who said they were religious.

So what does this mean for the philosophy of Atheism?

"And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
